What is Food Education?

Food Education is a comprehensive educational approach that incorporates food’s social, cultural, nutritional, and environmental factors as equal components of food’s importance to the human experience.

“Pilot Light really shaped how I think about food and how to approach teaching about it. This has really impacted how we talk about food in my class and with my kids!”

-Pilot Light Fellow Kate N.

What is Pilot Light?

Pilot Light is a Chicago chef-founded Food Education nonprofit that partners directly with educators across the country who integrate food into everyday classroom learning.

Our teacher-led model empowers educators of all grade levels and subject areas to weave food topics into their curriculum. By learning through food and about food, students develop the knowledge and skills to make informed choices and to advocate for themselves, their communities, and our food system.
